Amman, Jordan – Jordan ranked 61st globally and fourth regionally in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) Index for 2022, which was issued by Transparency International and included data from 180 countries.
The index shows that Jordan scored 47 points and is ahead of 119 countries in combating corruption, including Malaysia, China, Bahrain, Kuwait, Turkey and Egypt.
Jordan has taken strict measures to combat corruption. More than 200 persons were convicted of corruption-related charges in 2022. The charges included embezzlement, bribery, forgery and nepotism.
Transparency International, based in Berlin, said in a statement the anti-corruption index showed that little progress had been made in combating corruption with an increase in violence around the world, noting that corruption levels are stagnant for the 11th year in a row.
It added that the CPI showed that most countries are still falling behind in combating corruption, adding that 95 per cent of world countries have made little or no progress since 2017.
The CPI ranks 180 countries and territories according to their perceived levels of public sector corruption from zero, highly corrupt, to 100, least corrupt.
The corruption average sits at 43, the index notes, showing that two-thirds of world countries scored less than 50 points.
